"Elastic
collisions" is a physics term meaning -- think of two
identical steel (elastic) balls colliding
Since
the collision is perfectly elastic, (9) tells us

So
the identical balls come together with the same speed,
v, and depart one another in the opposite directions with
exactly the same velocities, v:
You
can see the physics formula above is about "elastic collisions"
which all just means -- the collision occurs (with adversity),
but there's no permanent damage done to you (such as a pumpkin
colliding with a baseball bat) and you keep your momentum
going . You aren't permanently damaged and you don't
lost any speed getting to the goals and happiness of
the rest of your life!
In
her book, "Resilience: Elastic collisions with life's
adversities" Susan Dunn explores our natural ability
to meet transitions and even crisis with emotional intelligence.
